Participation in Components Requiring HLA Testing
Do you qualify for data submission?

Laboratories should contact the leader of the specific research components in which they would like to participate (e.g., Anthropology/Null Alleles, Cancer, etc.) to obtain the study design. Using protocols and reagents for SSOP/reverse line blot (Anthropology only)/SBT/SSP (Null Alleles)/SNPs (HCT and Disease Components) and Microsatellites, each laboratory should establish the typing system with IHWG reference cells which may be obtained from the Cell and Gene Bank, contact Eric Mickelson  emickels@fhcrc.org or Ji Pei  jpei@fhcrc.org. Once the typing system is established, laboratories should contact the Quality Control Laboratory, Jennifer Ng, for a panel of quality control cells. These cells should be typed at the level of resolution required for the research component. Only those loci that will be tested during the research study need be identified. Results of the testing need to be submitted to the QC laboratory for evaluation. Quality Control Initial Qualification (Pre-Test) Laboratories achieving greater than 92% accuracy for each locus typed (i.e., 46 correct out of 50 calls/for 25 cells) will be approved for entry into the workshop. Additional quality control samples will be provided by the SSOP component during the workshop to assist laboratories and project leaders in evaluating the quality of the typing. Periodic Quality Control The recommended workshop reagent panels must be used for typing the QC cells since the results will be evaluated based on positive and negative hybridization patterns, NOT allele assignments.
