INDIAN SOCIETY FOR HISTOCOMAPTIBILITY AND IMMUNOGENETICS (ISHI) The Indian Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ISHI) has recently been established with its headquarters at New Delhi. The main aim of the society is to promote interaction between specialists and researchers and to conduct itself in a non-profit basis with a view to develop goodwill and understanding among basic scientists, physicians, transplant surgeons and other interested in the area of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics and Transplant Immunology through mutually assisted exchange of knowledge and research. Its activities are consistent with the statues of other similar international Histocompatibility societies. Objectives: The ISHI will strive towards the furtherance of its aims and objectives, that are: 1. To promote, encourage and assist the study of Histocompatibility, Immunogenetics and Transplantation Immunology in the country. 2. To provide facilities, if possible grants and other support necessary for providing quality service and conduct research in the area of Histocompatibility and Transplantation Immunology. 3. To educate the public and the medical profession on the necessity for a coordinated approach to the provision of Tissue Typing and Transplantation Immunology facilities. 4. To monitor standardization and institute quality control program for HLA testing (serology and molecular), cross matching and other relevant technologies. 5. To organize training courses, technology workshops on all relevant technologies and CME programs on related subjects. 6. To organize scientific conferences in various parts of the country and learn from the experience and suggestions of the experts. Membership: The membership is open to basic scientists, nephrologists, oncologists, transplant surgeons technologists, clinicians from related field. Those who will registered as members until the inaugural conference in March 2001 will be designated as "Founder Members". Membership is also open to commercial firms involved in the manufacture and marketing of products related to Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. The Inaugural Meeting: The inaugural scientific meeting of ISHI and pre conference Technology Workshop will be organized at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi from March 1-4, 2001.
